5 Things You Need to Know Today: Education Forum at the Dexter Library

Patch, the Center for Michigan and the Dexter District Library will put on event at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24.

 

The daily 5 has the weather forecast, gas prices, and some suggestions on how to spend your day.

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts areas of frost before 8 a.m. today, otherwise, there will be a high near 64 degrees. Monday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 45 degrees.

2. Education forum

Patch is now partnering with The Center for Michigan, a think-tank focusing on helping citizens drive important changes in the state. This year the center has been leading conversations on education throughout the state. Patch will be collaborating with local community organizations and leaders in Patch towns throughout southeast Michigan, and at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 24 a forum will be held at theDexter District Library. This forum is open to the public.

3. Dexter Village Council meeting

The Dexter Village Council meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Dexter Senior Center. Copies of the agenda can be downloaded online at www.villageofdexter.org.

4. Gas prices

MichiganGasPrices.com reports the following gasoline prices in the Dexter area as of Sunday night:

  • $3.88 a gallon (regular) BP, 200 Baker Rd.
  • $3.99 a gallon (regular), Sunoco, 2940 Baker Rd.
  • $3.89 a gallon (regular), Pilot Service Station, 195 Baker Rd.
  • $3.89 a gallon (regular), Pilot Service Station, 750 Baker Rd.
  • $3.99 a gallon (regular), BP, 8135 Main St.
  • $3.99 a gallon (regular), Mobil, 7177 Dexter-Ann Arbor Rd.

5. This day in history

Sept. 24, 1789: On this day, the Judiciary Act of 1789 was passed by Congress and signed by President George Washington, establishing the Supreme Court of the United States as a tribunal made up of six justices who were to serve on the court until death or retirement. You know, I wasn't sure about the education forum going in. I didn't know what to expect, but it was really great. Sharp moderator. Good company. Excellent comments. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wish more people had been able to attend. Maybe next time.
