Mother's Day Gift Ideas in Dexter

Local merchants are encouraging last-minute shoppers to buy Mother's Day gifts locally to support the Michigan economy.

Are you on the hunt for a last-minute Mother's Day gift? Mom's special day is this Sunday, and Dexter merchants have stocked their shelves in anticipation of a busy weekend.

"We hope when customers start shopping for a Mother's Day gift, they will check out the local selection here in Dexter first," Barbara Brewster of said.

Christine's has several items for sale for both young and older mothers. Gifts include Hobo leather handbags and purses, tagua nut jewelry from the South America rainforest (starting at $25), Emily Sloan laminated cotton cosmetic bags (starting at $39), cards, lotions, and jewelry.

Lisa Zahra, owner of , said the store's T-shirts, coffee mugs and hats are popular items for Mother's Day.

For those looking for the handmade touch, a selection of handmade jewelry, pottery, mosaics and artwork is available for purchase at .

"We will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday for the last-minute shoppers," co-owner Lisa Wandres said.

Wandres said popular items include alphabet architecture photos ($42), mosaic stepping stones ($28), and vintage buttons ($34).

Nichols & Stafford, a home decor store in Dexter, is selling table runners, candles, pillows and bird feeders, and will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Polly's Paper Studio is selling its handmade cards for $4.50 with the purchase of a gift card.

  • The Dexter Area Historical Society is also selling red, green, or blue blankets with images of Dexter for $50. Decorative note cards are also available for $5 a box.

Every mom deserves breakfast in bed at least once a year, but if you aren't a saavy kitchen chef, here are a few places to take mom out to eat.
