Dexter Senior Center Plans Ice Cream Social, Miniature Golf Fundraiser
Proceeds from the annual event will help fund senior center programs throughout the year.
The second annual ice cream social sponsored by the Dexter Senior Center will be held in Monument Park on Saturday.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features craft booths, hay rides through the old portion of the village, live music, a bounce house for kids and build-your-own sundaes provided by Stucchi’s ice cream.
"It's a great day of family fun for kids and adults," Jim Carson, president of the senior center’s board of directors said.
This year the center has also added a miniature golf event on Central Street. Patrons can pay $3 for nine holes of golf that will be set up during the afternoon.
"We're hoping we can attract more families to the park with the addition of some new games," Carson said.
Though the social had been a former annual spring event downtown, for the last three or four years it was discontinued by the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce.
"Last year the senior center took over organizing the social and we had a lot of positive response from the public," Carson said. "It's a fun day for families, and at the end of the day the senior center makes some money to add to our general fund."
In addition to games, Mr. Pita will sell sandwiches and fresh handmade pretzels from the senior center staff will be available.
The Union Base Ball Club of Dexter, a vintage baseball team, will hold its first game at Gordon Hall at 2 p.m. The game is free and open to the public.
