Dexter Superintendent Mary Marshall Picked by Pentwater Schools

PENTWATER — The Pentwater Public Schools Board of Education voted unanimously Wednesday night to enter into contract negotiations with Mary Marshall, superintendent of Dexter Community Schools to become the new superintendent/principal of Pentwater Public Schools.

According to the Ludington Daily News, Marshall was picked over three other candidates following her interview Wednesday night.

Marshall told Patch on Thursday driving back from Pentwater that she has "mixed feelings" about the announcement.

"I am excited about this opportunity both personally and professionally," she said. "I will definitely miss the teachers, students, and staff at Dexter Community Schools."

Marshall said she didn't expect a decision to come so quickly but has already contacted Larry Cobler, president of Dexter Community Schools, about her new appointment.

"The transition process will take weeks if not months, so I will be in Dexter for awhile until all the contract negotiations are worked out," she said.

Pentwater, a small school district in Pentwater Township along Lake Michigan, had a total student population of 283 in the 2011-2012 school year, according to the Center for Educational Performance and Information.

Marshall has worked in Dexter Community Schools for 20 years, and was picked to succeed former superintendent Robert Glass in January 2011.
