Dreadnaughts End Season With Loss Against Ann Arbor

Dexter boys varsity basketball team loses 46-35 to Ann Arbor Skyline on Wednesday.

Despite outscoring its opponent 20-12 in the second half of the game, Dexter’s boys’ varsity basketball team was ousted from the Class A state tournament losing to Ann Arbor Skyline 46-35 in district semifinal action at Brighton on Wednesday night.

The Dreadnaughts (9-12) played well for three of the game’s four quarters, but it was a difficult second quarter that proved Dexter’s eventual undoing against the Eagles.

To begin the game, Ann Arbor (12-10) took a slim 10-8 first quarter lead against Dexter.

In the second quarter, the Dreadnaughts went astray as Dexter’s offense bogged down and Ann Arbor’s heated up. The Eagles exploded for 24 points in the frame, while defensively Ann Arbor limited the Dreadnaughts to seven points. With their defensive clamp down, the Eagles entered the halftime break leading 34-15.

Coming out of the locker room, Dexter played much better in the third quarter, outscoring Ann Arbor 8-3 and cutting the Eagles’ advantage to 37-23 heading into the fourth quarter.

In the fourth frame, the Dreadnaughts netted 12 points, while holding Ann Arbor to nine points for the game's final margin.

Senior center Dave LaMore led Dexter with 14 points, while junior guard Jacob Van Hoof added seven points for the Dreadnaughts.

Theron Wilson paced Ann Arbor with 14 points.

In the district’s other semifinal matchup Wednesday, Ann Arbor Huron defeated Ann Arbor Pioneer 54-50.

To open the district playoffs Monday, Pioneer defeated Brighton 45-43, while Skyline topped Pinckney 74-62.

The district final will pit Skyline versus Huron at 6 p.m. Friday in Brighton.
