Halloween Haunt Will Breathe New Life Into Abandoned Chelsea Campground

The Camp of No Return features haunted mazes and other spooky events, with proceeds benefiting the Waterloo Recreation Area.

Thrill seekers throughout Southeast Michigan are invited to stroll the grounds of historic Mill Lake Outdoor Recreation Center in Chelsea during weekends in October for a chance to be spooked by area master scarer Krazy Hilda and her band of ghouls.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to benefit the restoration of the center’s cabins.

This abandoned campground has been transformed into the Camp of No Return. Vacant since the early 1990s, this location lends itself well to the werewolves, witches and walking dead that have been scaring area residents at Halloween since 1995.

“It’s a great spot to host a haunted event and we’re happy to be able to give back to the Waterloo Recreation Area,” said Krazy Hilda creator Nicole Karbacz.

Karbacz will contribute 5 percent of the event proceeds to rehabilitate the decaying buildings on the grounds.

The Camp of No Return is open weekends beginning Oct. 5-28. Tickets are available for purchase on location. Ticket prices are $11 for kids 11 and under, and $13 for all others.

Krazy Hilda’s Haunted Attractions, a volunteer organization, has been entertaining area familiesat Halloween for over 15 years. For more information and volunteer scarer opportunities visit www.krazyhildas.com or contact Karbacz at 734-550-2001.

Okay, neat event, but what I want to know is more about an "Abandoned Campground". Would love to hear more about this topic and why in such a rich area of parks, trails, lakes and such, did this site become "Abandoned".

Hi John,
We are looking to do a larger story that will (hopefully) address your question. Thanks!
