Modern Vintage Closing Downtown Dexter Location

Almost a year after openings its doors in downtown Dexter, the is closing and relocating to Blissfield.

The store — which catered heavily to teens and young adults in the Dexter area — was popular for its handbags, jewelry, and accessories.

"We have a really big youth following in Dexter. Some of our customers cried when they heard we were closing. I hate to break their hearts, but it was a decision we had to make," owner Amber Sears said.

Sears said the decision to close the Dexter location had nothing to do with lack of sales or a slow economy.

"Business wasn't bad. I was real happy being downtown, especially during the summer festivals like Dexter Daze," Sears, a native of Dexter said. "We have three locations (Brighton, Blissfield and Dexter) and it was becoming too much for me and my mom to handle."

Unforunately due to its size, Dexter became the default location to close, she said.

"Both the Blissfield and Brighton locations have a lot more space that our inventory requires," Sears said.

However, loyal customers can still browse the store's inventory online with the launch of Modern Vintage's new website in two weeks. Handbags and accessories can be ordered at www.mod-vin.com.

A special store closing sale will take place through March. All inventory will be marked down 25 percent. The store is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
