Obituary: Geraldine “Gerry” C. Blackwell

Geraldine Blackwell died on Jan. 13, 2013.

 

Geraldine “Gerry” C. Blackwell, 82, of Jasper, AL., formally of Chelsea, died on Jan. 13, 2013, at her home.

She was born on June 26, 1930, in Nauvoo, AL., the daughter of Clarence and Nellie Gilbreath Cheatham. Her siblings were Clara Nell (Ray Henson), Imogene (Owen Glass), Carl (Faynell), Charles (Maud), Ramona (Clifford Cain), Sylvia “Faye” (Ferrell Keeton), and Dwight (Dorothy).

Gerry lived in Chelsea for most of her adult life. She worked at University Microfilms as she raised her children: Sherry Anda Baibak (Donald) of Chelsea, Larry Richard (Marie) of Florida, Donna Ann Rodriguez (Randy) of Westland, and Pamela Kay Browning (Rocky) of Jasper, AL.

She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Chelsea.

After retirement, she volunteered for the Chelsea Community Hospital Auxiliary for many years before moving back to Alabama.

Gerry was the mother of four children, 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Andy; son-in-law Randy; grandson Matthew; great-granddaughter McKenzie; sister Ramona; and brothers Charles, Carl, and Dwight.

The family will receive friends on Feb. 16, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel, with a brief memorial service at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Vermont Cemetery at a date and time to be determined.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Chelsea First United Methodist Church, 128 Park St., Chelsea, MI. 48118.
