Pie Entries Sought for Dexter's Civil War Days
The Dexter Area Historical Society will auction the pies on June 12.
Organizers of the Dexter Historical Society's Civil War Days event June 10-12 are soliciting entries for a pie auction.
"This is a great opportunity for church and Scout groups to participate together," event co-organizer Alan Green said.
Participants can deliver their savory work of art between 1 and 3 p.m. on June 11 to the Dexter Area Historical Society Museum, 3443 Inverness St., where it will be stored overnight before being transported to Gordon Hall for the auction at 11:30 a.m. June 12. Custard-based fillings will not be accepted, as refrigeration will not be available.
Proceeds from the auction will help offset the cost of the Civil War Days program.
In addition to the pie auction, the society is selling tickets for a presidential dinner at Gordon Hall.
For $125 per person, attendees can enjoy dinner with President and Mrs. Abraham Lincoln at 7 p.m. June 11 on the grounds of Gordon Hall, 8341 Island Lake Rd.
The dinner will include live period music, social hour, a full dinner featuring 1861 White House menu items, an escorted lantern-lit tour of military and civilian encampments set up on the grounds of Judge Samuel Dexter's home and an evening closing ceremony.
Contact Donna Fisher at email@example.com or call 734-649-5169. Part of the ticket cost is tax deductible. All proceeds go to help pay off the Gordon Hall mortgage.
