Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

What Are You Reading? Tell Us About It for a Chance to Win a Kindle!

Patch is assembling a list of summer book recommendations and rewarding one Patch reader in the Dexter area with a Kindle just for helping.

UPDATE: THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED AS OF 7/20/2012

What are you reading right now?

What did your kiddos finish reading last night?

Summer is in full swing, and so is the popular summer reading program at the Dexter District Library (have you helped your kids log their reading time yet? You have until Aug. 9).

We're continuing to build our 2012 Summer Reading Guide and looking for Patch readers to help. Post a comment with your reading recommendation; one commenter will be chosen at random on Friday to win a new Kindle e-Reader.

And, speaking of reading recommendations, Patch has put together (with the help of bestselling author James Patterson) a list of age-specific titles that you should check out.

If you like any of these, or have other well-loved books to share, tell us all about it.

Post a comment with your book recommendation (for kids or adults) by noon Friday, July 20, to enter.

A Patch editor will pick a winner at random; that winner will be contacted Friday afternoon and will have until noon Monday to respond in order to claim the prize. The Kindle we're giving away is the 6-inch version shown here.

The contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older. And this wouldn't be a contest without a complete list of official contest rules.

What have you read this summer?

I am reading Sue Monk Kidd's "The Secret Life of Bees", which was a garage sale find.

My 12 year old is reading "Eragon" by Christopher Paolini, which she found in the nicely designed teen area of the Dexter library.

My preschooler is reading every "Little Critter" book she can find at the library.

Just finished reading "The Help" and just started "The Lost World" by Arthur Conan Doyle. I just saw the silent film and thought I'd give the book a try and so far it's a good read.

Just rolled through John Kennedy Toole's early novel 'The Neon Bible' over the past two days upon having it recommended by a friend. It's interesting to see the raw talent of the 'Dunces' author in its infancy.
Today, I've begun re-reading the late French philosopher Jean Baudrillard's 1986 release 'America.' I've read it twice already and just am beginning to feel as though I can grasp portions of it.
My fifteen-month-old is loving having 'Whose Toes are Those' read to her lately. It's her new favorite for the moment.

I just finished the books in James Clavell's Asian Saga and am currently reading Days of Abandonment, by Elena Ferrante, and Within a Budding Grove, by Marcel Proust.
My son is reading his way through the L. Frank Baum books (and loving them!), and together (out loud) we are reading The Graveyard Book, by Neil Gaiman. We'll probably read The Lord of the Rings trilogy to him next.
