Safety is an overriding priority at home, at work, and in our community. I am pleased to see that the majority of citizens recognize this. I am disappointed that this did not win by a larger margin. This is a non-partisan issue, unless you consider spending of any sort to be bad. We need an infrastructure that provides for a safe community. Reducing fire and emergency response time is critical, …   more ›

Dexter World War II Veteran Voted in Every Election Since Roosevelt

Dexter Township resident Bill Lowery, 91, volunteered his time at the polls on Election Day.

For the 18th time in his life, Bill Lowery of Dexter Township cast his ballot for U.S. president on Tuesday. "I haven't missed an election since I've been able to vote," he said. Lowery, 91, a World War II veteran, said this year's election is particularly important due to all the local, state, and national candidates running for office. "The divisiveness between the Democrats and Republicans has gotten out of hand," he said. "Neither one of the candidates wants to come to the middle and unite our country." For that reason, Lowery offered to volunteer at his local polling station on Tuesday to help encourage residents to vote. "I think that everyone should come out to vote, especially given the state of our current economy," he said. His …

The unions were not entirely blameless. However, to say "the unions killed Hostess" and then somehow blaming that on Obama and/or Obamacare is disingenuous. You did not address how management squandered the millions of investment dollars and union concessions, you did not address the 6 CEOs since 2004 or the pillaging of millions of dollars for raises and golden parachutes for the upper …   more ›

Barack Obama Re-Elected President

President Obama defeated Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 presidential election.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The campaign Obama won was the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and …
