In the wake of devastating hurricane Sandy that hit the east coast last week, the Dexter Lions Club is doing its part to help families affected by the storm.
The club recently authorized the donation of $1,000 to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) for its disaster relief efforts.
"Lions have shown time and time again their readiness and willingness to respond to natural disasters. We must always be ready and able to provide disaster relief at a moment’s notice – whether from hurricanes, typhoons, earthquakes, tsunamis, or man-made disasters," Lions International said in a written statement.
In addition to the Dexter donation, Lions Clubs International also awarded a $100,000 major catastrophe grant to allow Lions along the east coast to immediately begin providing assistance.
"Many Lions are already working with local food banks, police and fire departments and other local organizations," Dexter Lion Jim Warden said. "We believe that 'in a world of service,' one person can make a difference, but together we can have an even greater impact."
