Five Things You Need to Know: Week of April 4

Here's a rundown of what's going on in Dexter this week.

1. Dexter Daze Meeting

It’s that time of year again to plan spring and summer activities.  The Dexter Daze festival planning meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at the .  The public is welcome to attend.  Visit dexterdaze.org for more information about Dexter Daze.

2. Cake Contest

In  honor of spring, Scrumptious and are challenging you to bake and decorate your best cake or cupcakes. The theme is "Walking on Sunshine," inspired by the popular 1980s song by Katrina and the Waves. Visit Joe and Rosie’s today on Main Street to enter the contest. All entries must be in by noon Saturday and will be judged based on their appearance, concept and, of course, taste. The public will also have the opportunity to vote on their favorites. The cost to vote is 50 cents, and the cost to enter is $10 per contestant. Half of the entry fee and 100 percent of the public’s voting fees will go directly to Dexter First Steps. 3. Grow your own vegetables

If your gardening space is limited and you still want to grow your own vegetables, herbs and flowers, apply for a plot in the village of Dexter's Community Garden. The garden is located at 7651 Dan Hoey Rd. Plots will be assigned to village residents on a first-come, first-served basis until May 30.  After May 30, anyone in the Dexter School District may reserve a plot. Plots are 20 feet by 20 feet for $50 or 10 feet by 10 feet for $25.  Visit villageofdexter.org for more information and download a plot reservation form.

4. Women’s Lenten Luncheon

The women invite you to a free Lenten luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Dexter United Methodist Church. Join many other women for great food, fellowship and the inspiring words and songs of singer/songwriter Debbie Mantel of Chelsea. Visit dexterumc.org or call 734-426-8480 for more information.

5. Social Networking Workshop

The will host a free social networking workshop from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Learn about Facebook, Twitter and blogging. Registration is required by calling 734-426-4477.
