Dexter Area Artists Showcased in Weekend Harvest Art Market

The event will take place on Saturday at Silver Maples Retirement Community in Chelsea.

Silver Maples of Chelsea will come alive with color as more than 20 local artisans exhibit their works during the fourth-annual Harvest Art Market on Saturday.

The event will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 100 Silver Maples Dr. in Chelsea. There will be displays of watercolors, folk art, pottery, fiber arts, glass works, original photography, vintage art and more.

Lauren Kingsley, owner of The Painted Trout in Dexter, is looking forward to exhibiting in the show.

“I plan to bring my best-sellers for holiday giving – hand-dyed velvet scarves, as well as some hand-painted silk scarves and hand-printed tea-towels,” she said. “These are a big hit with customers who know that they make great gifts. They are each one-of-a-kind and very sumptuous in color and feel.”

Local beekeeper Jan Sevde will sell gourmet honey soaps and lotion bars made from beeswax. Sevde, whose creations are sold at in downtown Dexter, also sells her products at local craft shows and at the Garden Mill and Farm Supply in Chelsea.

Jewelry artisan Becky House, owner of her home-based business All Things Bright & Beautiful, creates earrings, necklaces, pendants, bracelets, anklets, key fobs and rings  using wire, semi-precious stones, shell, lava, wood and other natural materials. Her best sellers are earrings she calls ear climbers that she displays on rubber Star Trek “Spock ears.”

House, who was a substitute teacher in Dexter for several years, has participated in the in Dexter, among others. This will be her third year at the Harvest Art Market.

Ann Arbor artist Susan Falcone, who helped launch the Harvest Art Market four years ago, will exhibit her nature watercolors, including a new series called “Nature Icons” that incorporate gold leaf into the pieces.

“The bright, welcoming room at Silver Maples offers artwork and crafts by local artists and residents, and a selection of interesting antiques, and that’s the nature of its appeal to me,” she said. “I always look forward to seeing the many different visitors.”

The market is free and open to the public. In addition to the artists, the Huron Valley Harmonizers “What 4” barbershop quartet will perform, as will the Quarto Dolce Wind and String Quartet.
