Local Talent Takes Center Stage for Encore's 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat'

The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical features actors from across Washtenaw County.

DEXTER — The music of Andrew Lloyd Webber is back at The Encore Musical Theatre for the theater's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Based on the “coat of many colors” story of Joseph from the Bible’s Book of Genesis, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat was first presented as a 15-minute pop cantata in London in 1968, but was soon recorded as a full-length concept album in 1969. It was not presented onstage until 1970, however, and opened on Broadway in 1982.

Like other Andrew Lloyd Webber musicals, Joseph is a sung-through show (all music). With a family-friendly storyline, universal themes, and catchy music, productions of Joseph have been performed worldwide. Recognizable tunes like “Go Go Go Joseph," “Any Dream Will Do," “Those Canaan Days," and “Close Any Door," are sure to be a delight for audiences.

Kevin Rose, who was recently seen at The Encore as Jinx in Plaid Tidings, will perform the role of Joseph. Madison Deadman, Megan Casey, and Bryana Dorfman, who make up the country group SIR3N, sing the role of narrator in three-part harmony. Three children’s ensembles made of up children from Ann Arbor, Dexter, Chelsea, Ypsilanti, and Milan will also perform in the show.

The show is directed and choreographed by Barbara Cullen, with music directed by Jonathan Sills.

Tickets may be purchased by calling the Encore's box office at 734-268-6200. The box office is open Tuesday through Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.theencoretheatre.org.

Patrons attending opening night on Feb. 8 will be invited to an opening night party with the cast and crew.

A preview of the show will take place on Feb. 7. All tickets are $18. The theater will also offer a Valentine’s Day concert featuring Kevin Rose with Thalia Schramm on Feb. 13.
