Tony-Award Winning Comedy 'Lend Me a Tenor' Coming to Encore Musical Theatre

Renowned actor Tobin Hissong will direct this classic farce at the Dexter theater beginning March 28.

In a departure from its previous shows, The Encore Musical Theatre will debut its first non-musical, Lend Me a Tenor, directed by Tobin Hissong of Detroit.

Lend Me a Tenor is a comedy written by Ken Ludwig, produced on both the West End and Broadway in New York. It received nine Tony Award nominations and won for Best Actor and Best Director. A Broadway revival of the show opened in 2010. It has been translated into sixteen languages and produced in 25 countries.

Tenor takes place in 1934 at The Cleveland Opera Company, just before renowned tenor Tito Mirelli is scheduled to sing the lead in the opera, Otello.

Unfortunately, even before the star leaves his hotel room, everything begins to unravel. Hijinks ensue, and what follows is a chain-reaction of mistaken identity, farcical plot twists, double entendres, innuendoes, and constant entrances and exits through many doors.

The cast includes Paul Hopper, Barbara Coven, Brian P. Sage, Sebastian Gerstner, Thalia Schramm, Angela Miller, Tara Tomcsik, and Elliott Styles.

Tickets may be purchased by calling the Encore's box office at 734-268-6200, or online at www.theencoretheatre.org.

Special events for this show include one preview show on March 28 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $18 per seat for this show only. Opening night will take place on March 29 at 8 p.m.
