Saturday Night Sock Hop

Hudson Education Center for the Arts hosts a Sock Hop fundraiser to benefit local youth.

The Hudson Education Center presents a sock hop featuring Stevie D and the Wannabes on Saturday, May 4, at 6 p.m. at Mill Creek Middle School.

Come have a rockin' good time this Saturday while showing your support for local youth music programs.  The Hudson Education Center for the Arts is a non-profit organization focused on providing performing arts opportunities for young people regardless of a family's ability to pay. The H.E.C. sock hop will raise money for year-round music programs in the Dexter area.

The Saturday night fun starts at 6 p.m. at Mill Creek Middle School. Enjoy pizza, Ice cream, beverages, games, dancing, and more. Tickets are $5 each, and the proceeds will support H.E.C. music programs. Children 5 and under are free.

Some of the upcoming opportunities sponsored by the H.E.C. for young people this summer are The Rising Stars Summer Concert Series, sectional studios for each instrument (if there are enough registrations), The Tapestry Project, private music lessons, and HEC academic programs. The First annual HEC Year-Ender Concert is May 31, 6PM at Mill Creek Middle School.  For more information about the programs or to get involved, contact Gordon Darr at info@hecmusic.org

In the fall, H.E.C. continues to offer programs for Dexter’s budding musicians. To the summer programs are added the the Winter Holiday Program, and the Solo Ensemble Showcase in which Dexter’s finest middle school and high school soloists share their music with the community. Under the direction of Gordon Darr, students also perform at senior centers, schools and community functions year-round.

Although the nine person band Stevie D and the Wannabes is best known for their talent in performing hits from Beetles to Blues and from Country to Classical Jazz, Roaring 20s, R&B and Pop, they are often found using their talents for the benefit of charities such as the Shelter Association of Washtenaw County and East Coast Storm Relief through the American Red Cross (Rissa Haynes).

The community is warmly invited to come to Mill Creek Middle School on Saturday to support arts education in Dexter and enjoy a traditional sock hop with entertainment by one of our premiere local bands. The cost is only $5 at the door, and children 5 and under are free.
