William Wendorf, currently a freshman at Dexter High School, is the only U.S. student to earn a spot as a finalist in the contest to design a tile for Livermorium (Lv) in the Interactive Periodic Table Project. The winner will be determined by a voting process.
William created a tile for the Interactive Periodic Table sponsored by the University of Waterloo's Chem13 magazine. The university will be adding the newly discovered elements Flerovium (element 114) and Livermorium (element 116) to their interactive periodic table. Already part of the table is Neptunium (element 93) which was submitted by two Dexter high school students to the original project.
Votes are cast by two simple steps on twitter: re-tweet the tile announcement on Twitter and then making it a "favorite." To vote, go to the Chem13 Twitter page, navigate to Livermorium Tile B (Will Wendorf), and "re-tweet." If you would like to vote for the design, but don't already have Twitter account, it's simple to set one up.
The five final tile design submissions were featured in the May 2013 issue of Chem 13 News. The finalists were selected by 3M Canada, the Chemical Institute of Canada, the Waterloo Office of Research, and the University of Waterloo Chemistry Department based on creativity and artistic design.
