Annual Golf Fundraiser Benefits Dexter Athletes

Golfers across Michigan will participate in the 10th annual Jim and Jeff Bishop Memorial Golf Outing to raise money for Dexter athletics on Aug. 3.

More than 100 golfers will take to the green on Aug. 3 for the 10th annual memorial golf fundraiser in honor of Dexter residents Jim and Jeff Bishop, who were killed in a car accident in 1999.

As in previous years, proceeds from the event will be donated to the Dexter Community Schools athletic program and Ele’s Place, a counseling center in Ann Arbor for grieving children.

“This is always a lot of work to pull off, but we love to see people get together to raise money for two worthy causes and simultaneously help underprivileged kids have the opportunity to play high school sports,” event co-organizer Paul Bishop III said.

This year, the event will take place at the Ann Arbor Country Club, beginning with registration at 11:15 a.m. and a shotgun start at noon. Though the registration deadline to participate in the golf game has passed, Bishop said he welcomes anyone in the community to attend the day’s activities.

“We’ll certainly have raffles and prize giveaways as well as a buffet dinner at 6 p.m. for anyone who wants to attend as long as they make a donation,” he said.

Over the years, Bishop said the fundraiser has garnered more than $20,000 through the generosity of the Dexter community.

“We get a lot of support from the restaurants and businesses in town and the calibur of prizes reflect the generosity of this community,” Bishop said. "We're happy to have such great support from all of the area businesses. We couldn't do this without the donations."

To celebrate the fundraiser's 10th year, is donating a brand new car as a prize for a hole-in-one challenge.
