Artistica Celebrates Third Anniversary

The art gallery and shop enjoys success in downtown Dexter.

Dozens of friends and loyal customers turned out for third anniversary celebration in Dexter this weekend. The art gallery and gift store features paintings, pottery, jewelry and other crafts handmade by more than 20 Michigan artists.

“It has been great being in Dexter,” Artistica co-owner Pam O’Hara said.

O’Hara said she and co-founders Lisa Wandres, Anne Kornow and Jamie Valen enjoy being able to support local artists.

“This anniversary is very exciting for us,” Valen said. “We’re just tickled that we’ve done so well. I think a lot of that has to do with the number of reasonably priced items that we are able to showcase.”

Janet Egeler of Dexter Township was one valued customer who stopped in the store for the shop’s anniversary.

“I like to come here to do my gift shopping, but I always find something for myself, too,” she said.

Joann Wilki of Chelsea said she, too, enjoys frequenting the shop.

“I don’t come here all the time, but when I come to Dexter, I make it a point to stop by and see what interesting things they have for sale,” she said.

O’Hara said she loves coming to work every day and meeting new artists and customers.

“If I’m having a bad day, coming here instantly cheers me up because I am surrounded by so many beautiful things,” she said.

Anita Spencer, a glass bead artist who displays her wares in the store, said she enjoys being part of the Artistica family.

“They have done a great job with this shop,” she said. “It is really well-supported by the community, and it’s a great avenue for artists — especially now when there are no art fairs going on.”
