The will recognize several area businesses and residents during its annual awards dinner Thursday at the Portage Yacht Club.
The dinner begins at 6 p.m. with cocktails and networking, followed by a buffet meal and awards presentation.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Mary Kerr of the Ann Arbor Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“We are excited to have Mary come and speak about how the Ann Arbor Area Convention and Visitors Bureau can help spread the word about small towns like Dexter,” said Abby Erickson, executive director of the Dexter chamber.
Following Kerr's speech, the chamber will present its Business of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards, the Spark Plug award and the Spirit of Dexter award.
Erickson said members of the chamber’s board nominate the Business of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards. The Spark Plug award is given to someone the chamber deems helpful with marketing the community in the past year; and the Spirit of Dexter award is given to a member of the community who volunteers time to organizations in Dexter.
The cost to attend the dinner is $15, and the event is open to anyone in the community.
“It’s a chamber benefit, but anyone that wants to come can attend," Erickson said. "If they are interested in joining the chamber, this is a great way to check it out and get an overall vibe of what we do.”
