Organizers for Chelsea Community Hospital’s 26th annual spring auction, “Big Ten Tailgate,” have deemed the May 14 event a "rousing success," raising more than $234,000 for the hospital.

The event included a silent auction, raffle, super raffle and a live auction conducted by auctioneer Steve Gross.

With proceeds funding the purchase of a linear accelerator for radiation therapy, 330 guests dressed up in their favorite Big 10 team attire and enjoyed a night of fun and friends, complete with sports-themed décor and tailgate foods.

The Pause for Pledge event, conducted during the live auction, was also a record-breaker with more than $77,000 raised in less than 10 minutes, surpassing the goal of $50,000. These dollars will support a variety of patient comfort items needed for the future linear accelerator radiation services.

“People really seemed to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and had fun dressing up in their favorite Big 10 fan gear,” Patty Roberts, special events coordinator said. “I’m so grateful to our outstanding group of committee members and volunteers who gave so much of their time to make this auction an unforgettable evening for all who attended.”

Judy Stratman, director of marketing and development for the hospital, said it was nice seeing a wide mix of patrons at the event.

“The exceptional response is a true indicator of the strong support in our community for our local hospital, and for having cancer care close to home. What a great community our hospital serves," she said.
