Demolition of Chelsea's Federal Screw Works Building Wraps Up

Prospective tenants for the property will be considered after blight removal and contamination clean-up are complete.

The demolition of the Federal Screw Works building located at 500 S. Main Street in downtown Chelsea is complete and contamination of the site is being handled by construction crews.

According to the Chelsea Standard, the property, which consists of 2.5 acres of land where the former Chelsea Screw Co. once operated, will undergo $321,000 of blight removal, in order to make the property developable.

According to Ann Arbor.com, the site was one of five vacant or underutilized properties that the city focused on last year while determining a strategic plan for downtown. The other sites included the former auto dealership Palmer Ford, the Clocktower complex, the Longworth buildings and several downtown parking lots and alleyways.
