Dexter, Chelsea Businesses Prep for Easter Season

Area bakeries and restaurants will offer holiday specials for customers during Easter weekend.

With the Easter season quickly approaching, businesses and restaurants throughout the Dexter and Chelsea area are preparing for holiday crowds.

Karen Dudek, owner of the Dexter Bakery, said holiday sales generally pick up two weeks before Easter weekend, which falls on March 29-31 this year.

"Our popular sellers are our rolls and bunny cakes," she said. "We also have a selection of decorated sugar cookies that kids really enjoy."

Dudek said the Easter-themed pastries will be available beginning after St. Patrick's Day on March 17.

For families wanting a custom cake, Dudek recommends placing orders at least 48 hours ahead of the scheduled date due to the bakery's busy holiday schedule.

Sarah Seta, co-owner of Stucchi's Ice Cream in Dexter, said the shop fills a lot of orders for ice cream cakes during the Easter weekend.

"We usually do pretty well," she said. "It depends on when the holiday falls on the calendar. This year it takes place during spring break, and a lot of people usually go out of town."

Seta said the business contributes hundreds of coupons for free junior ice cream scoops during the village's annual Easter egg hunt.

"It's a nice way to give back to the community," she said.

In Chelsea, Glee Cake & Pastry owners are promising a selection of holiday-themed baked goods, however details have not been finalized.

The Chelsea Comfort Inn announced its Easter brunch for March 31. The brunch includes a salad and fruit bar, omelet and waffle bar, ham, roasted sirloin, shrimp and crawfish gumbo, and a selection of desserts. The cost for the brunch is $16.95 per adult, or $13.95 for seniors, and $8.95 for children. Reservations are required by calling 734-433-8000.
