Dexter Graduate Brings 'The Big Salad' Franchise to Ann Arbor

Kevin Vlazny has recently opened the restaurant on Plymouth Road.

Dexter High School graduate Kevin Vlazny is now the proud fifth franchisee to open The Big Salad restaurant in Michigan.

According to an article in the Dexter Leader, Vlazny recently opened the business at 2793 Plymouth Road in Ann Arbor.

“I was attracted to The Big Salad because it was a new concept with healthy and fresh food served in an upscale and fast casual environment that’s perfectly suited for the lifestyle of Ann Arbor residents,” Vlazny told the Dexter Leader.

The franchise was started by Michigan native John Bornoty in 2008 in Grosse Pointe, where he lives. The restaurant also has locations in Royal Oak, Troy and Novi.

"I'm on the go all the time and I like to eat healthy, and there are no options for people who want to eat healthy that are on the go. So the whole concept evolved basically from that," Bornoty told Novi Patch last year.

The Big Salad offers more than 28 vegetable topping choices, 30 dressings, eight meat and seafood topping choices and eight dry topping choices. The restaurant also has 16 varieties of soups and five healthy sandwiches.

Bornoty hopes to open 200 locations within the next 10 years, including a few more in Ann Arbor.
