Kids Fashion Jungle Brings Upscale Resale to Washtenaw County

Tamara Douglas, owner of Kids Fashion Jungle, said she was inspired to open her store in 2012 after seeing a need for a children's resale shop in the area.

How did your business come to be?: Kids Fashion Jungle came to be when after taking our children's clothes to "larger" children's resale stores, we found that we were only receiving pennies for the brand name clothing we had to offer them. On top of that, the stores were extremely selective due to the mass amount of clothing resources they had. We wanted to provide a service locally so that people that have brand name clothing for children and no longer need it, could get a better value for those products. We saved our money, sold everything we didn't need and formed a budget and business plan. We contacting great toy vendors and developed a business strategy that included offering new toys along with upscale resale clothing.

What kind of services do you offer?: Kids Fashion Jungle offers cash or store credit for name brand children's clothing ages 0-12. We buy clothing all day, everyday we are open. (Winter Hours) Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 11-5, and Saturday 10-4. Hours change starting May 9th to M,W,F 10-6, Thursday 11-8 (for Farmer's Market Support) and Saturday 10-5.

What's a fact about your business that most customers probably don't know?: Most customers probably don't know that we are not a consignment shop. We pay CASH for your gently used and new with tag excellent used condition children's clothing or, receive 25% more when you choose store credit.

What do you want your business to be best known for?: Customer service, friendly owner and clean-smelling, steamed clothing at up to 75% off retail!

What's your most popular product or service?: The most popular product is Tootle Turtle Target Game by Melissa and Doug but we also sell more blue jeans than any other product! Also, spirit wear hoodies are in high demand. We offer custom spirit wear and bargain pricing. Contact us for group orders.

When was the business founded?: Kids Fashion Jungle was founded on May 21 2012 and after many hours of sanding 100 year old floors, covering dark purple paint, hanging slat wall and assembling racks, opened its doors to the public during the Grand Opening Celebration on Main Street in Manchester, July 14th 2012.

Why did you choose to locate to Dexter?: We chose the area we are in not only for the demographics but because of our budget. We were looking to get started on a Main Street but had a limited budget for rent costs.
