Toyota Donates Computers to Chelsea Library

The equipment will benefit library patrons in Washtenaw County.

Editor's note: This press release was submitted by the Chelsea District Library.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing of Saline recently donated 45 computers and monitors to the Chelsea District Library. This is the largest technology donation the library has received to date. The donation will be used to replace older public and staff computers.

“The use of these computers and monitors will have a tremendous impact on the library. We will be able to replace older computers with newer models for both staff and the public," library director Bill Harmer said. “In addition, this donation has a significant budget implication. We will now have the luxury of adjusting our replacement schedule for older model computers, which will provide a large cost savings on our 2012 operating budget.”

Toyota’s external affairs representative, Cynthia Mahalak of Chelsea, worked with Ron Andrews and the technology department at the library regarding the donation.

"This generous donation of computers will provide us the opportunity to be more flexible with our technology support and provide upgradeable workstations for public use," Andrews said.

The computers are part of a larger donation to The Library Network, a public library cooperative serving 65 libraries in southeast Michigan. Toyota donated about 250 computers to The Library Network.
