Dexter Cityhood Referendum - Comment

The result of the election to determine whether the process for the Village of Dexter to become a city should continue, shows a slim margin in favor of continuing the process.

The next step will be the election of a nine-member charter commission.  That commission will be charged with drafting the charter of the proposed city.  Upon State approval of the draft charter, it would then come before the people for a vote.

Disappointed because we were not successful in this part of the process, I am extremely proud of my co-chair, Mary Fialkowski, and all the others who joined in and offered their support during this campaign.  Our goal to help educate the voters by discussing the issues in an accurate and fair manner was successful and truly rewarding.

I appreciate all the people who exercised their right to vote today.  I will follow the process as it continues and, along with others, will be watching with great interest as a charter is drafted.
