Dreads Swim & Dive to 3rd Place at Spartan Invitational - Battle Creek

The Dexter High School men’s swim & dive team started off the new year with a third place finish at the 8th Annual Spartan Invitational at Battle Creek Lakeview High School, Saturday, January 4th.  The Dreadnaughts with 275 points finished behind Division 2 rivals Birmingham Seaholm (514) and Ann Arbor Skyline (328).  Following was host Battle Creek Lakeview (D-2), Saline (D-1), Grosse Pointe South (D-2), Birmingham Groves (D-2), Hudsonville (D-1), Portage Central and Portage Northern (both D-2).  Highlighting the meet for Dexter was Dexter’s diving squad of co-captain Jake Kilian, Dominik Sinram, Aaron Tracey and Griffin Beck, who turned in Dexter’s best dive results for this invitational finishing in first place in the early morning 1 meter dive competition.  Kilian scored in third place, Beck was eighth, Tracey scored in tenth place and Sinram, making his Dexter diving debut, finished in twelfth place. Swim highlights included sophomore Jimmy Morgan, who nailed down a state qualifying time in the 500 yard freestyle; in addition, Dexter scored two relay teams in each of the three relay events at the meet.

Dexter resumes its dual meet schedule this week with a home meet on Thursday, January 9th hosting the Adrian Maples (6 pm, Wylie Pool), and an away meet, visiting the Ann Arbor Hurons, Friday, January 10th. On Saturday, January 18th, Dexter continues the tradition of hosting its 22nd annual Freshman-Sophomore Invitational Swim & Dive meet, showcasing the future talent of teams from 9 high schools in the southeastern Michigan area.
