Here's a look at some events going on around the Dexter area today.

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts scattered snow showers, mainly between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m., with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 30 degrees today. Thursday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 15 degrees.

2. Exhibit: Proclaiming Emancipation

A never-before-seen photo of Frederick Douglass, a bronze maquette of Thomas Ball's Freedmen's Memorial, a document written by a medium under trance, and the sketchbooks of Civil War soldiers are a few items in the historically rich exhibit "Proclaiming Emancipation," at the Hatcher Graduate Library at the University of Michigan. The exhibit, which runs until Feb. 18, 2013, commemorates the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation (issued Jan. 1, 1863). The exhibit is free and open to the public.

3. Hands-On Holidays 2012: Hot & Cold

The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum is hosting its annual Hands-On Holidays event. Attendees will enjoy special activities, including make and take crafts and experiments. Activities will explore the concepts of hot and cold, including the science of temperature. The event takes place today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information, call 734-995-5439.

5. This day in history

Dec. 27, 2007:  On this day in 2007, Benazir Bhutto, a former Pakistani prime minister and the first democratically elected female leader of a Muslim country, was assassinated at age 54 in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi. For more historic dates, visit www.history.com.
