1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts patchy freezing fog between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. today. Thursday night will see a 90 percent chance of rain after 8 p.m., with a low around 33 degrees.

2. Iris folding class

Shake the winter dull by making a whimsical winter “fishing penguin” card for someone special in your life. Helen O’Toole will guide workshop participants in using the Iris Folding method of crafting to create a truly memorable keepsake card. The event takes place today at 1 p.m. at the Dexter District Library.

3. Young People’s Theater presents 'Fiddler On The Roof'

Come support children from Dexter, Ann Arbor, and surrounding communities during the opening of Fiddler on the Roof. The show will take place today at 7 p.m. at the Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre in Ann Arbor. Tickets are $15 for adults, or $10 for children and students 18 and younger. Tickets can be purchased by calling 734-763-TKTS.

4. Gas prices

MichiganGasPrices.com reports the following gasoline prices in the Dexter area as of Wednesday night:

  • $3.28 a gallon (regular) BP, 200 Baker Rd.
  • $3.22 a gallon (regular), Sunoco, 2940 Baker Rd.
  • $3.29 a gallon (regular), Pilot Service Station, 195 Baker Rd.
  • $3.29 a gallon (regular), Pilot Service Station, 750 Baker Rd.
  • $3.25 a gallon (regular), BP, 8135 Main St.

5. This day in history

Jan. 10, 2000: On this day in 2000, in one of the biggest media mergers in history, America Online Inc. announced plans to acquire Time Warner Inc. for some $182 billion in stock and debt. The result was a $350 billion mega-corporation, AOL Time Warner, which held dominant positions in every type of media, including music, publishing, news, entertainment, cable and the Internet.
