1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly after noon, with a high near 91 degrees. Thursday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 64 degrees.

2. Sounds and Sights Festival

3. Dexter School Board election

Dexter School Board candidates who wish to seek office during the November general election must file an Affidavit of Identity and a nominating petition by Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. (A $100 nonrefundable fee may be filed in lieu of a petition.) The withdrawal deadline elapses at 4 p.m. Aug. 17.

4. Gas prices

MichiganGasPrices.com reports the following gasoline prices in the Dexter area as of Wednesday night:

5. This day in history

July 26, 1998: The U.S. 500, the most prestigious race in the Championship Auto Racing Teams series, dissolved into tragedy on this day in 1998, when three fans were killed and six others wounded by flying debris from a car at Michigan Speedway in Brooklyn.
