5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 1

Here is a look at what's going on today around the Dexter area.

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts a slight chance of snow showers before 8 a.m. today. Temperatures will remain in the low 40s throughout the day. Thursday night it will be cloudy with a low around 31 degrees.

2. Paddling Michigan’s Hidden Beauties

Doc Fletcher will return to the at 7 p.m. with a slideshow on canoeing the rivers of Michigan. Fletcher is author of several books on canoeing and has been featured on Michigan Outdoors. The program is free and open to the public.

The monthly dinner at will include corned beef and cabbage with all the trimmings. Dessert and beverages are included.

Dine in or carry-out from 5-7 p.m. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-12; and children 4 and under are free. Tickets are available at the door.

5. This day in history

March 1, 1932: On this day in 1932, in a crime that captured the attention of the entire nation, Charles Lindbergh III, the 20-month-old son of aviation hero Charles Lindbergh, was kidnapped from the family's new mansion in New Jersey.
