5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 16

Here is a look at what's going on today around the Dexter area.

1. The weather

The National Weather Service is predicting mostly sunny, with a high near 66 degrees today. Wednesday night it will be mostly clear, with a low around 41 degrees.

2. Book Snackers Book Club

The Book Snackers book discussion group for grades 3-5 will meet today at 4:30 p.m. at the . The club will discuss Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper. Registration is required.

3. Main Street update

Main Street is scheduled to be paved today (weather permitting). Please do not walk on the pavement while the paving is underway. Prior to placing new asphalt, the contractor will spray a layer of tack coat on the pavement which is used to bond layers of pavement together. This is a thin layer of bonding liquid that will stick to your shoes and will be tracked onto the existing concrete or pavers. Striping of the roadway and parking spaces is scheduled for Thursday. Once this is complete the road will be re-opened.

MichiganGasPrices.com reports the following gasoline prices in the Dexter area as of Tuesday night:

5. This day in history
