5 Things You Need to Know Today: Mindo Chocolate Demonstration

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies, with a high near 35 degrees today. Tuesday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 27 degrees.

2. Outdoor skate rink closed due to weather

With this week’s weather forecast showing an increase in temperatures there is a likelihood that the ice rink will be closed by Wednesday and reopen the following week when temperatures drop again. Dexter Village officials ask that the public remain off the ice when the rink is closed to help preserve the ice and avoid damage to the liner.

3. Mindo Chocolate demonstration

Come learn about the Mindo process of chocolate making and what makes this chocolate stand out from the rest. This program takes place at the Dexter District Library today at 7 p.m. Registration is required.

4. Gas prices

MichiganGasPrices.com reports the following gasoline prices in the Dexter area as of Monday night:

  • $3.18 a gallon (regular) BP, 200 Baker Rd.
  • $3.25 a gallon (regular), Sunoco, 2940 Baker Rd.
  • $3.19 a gallon (regular), Pilot Service Station, 195 Baker Rd.

5. This day in history

Jan. 8, 2011: On this day in 2011, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, a U.S. congresswoman from Arizona, was critically injured during a shooting spree at a constituents meeting held by the congresswoman outside a Tucson-area supermarket.
