1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts mostly sunny skies today, with a high near 59 degrees. Thursday night there is a chance of showers, with a low around 35 degrees.

2. Vice presidential debate

Democrat Joe Biden and Republican Paul Ryan will face off in their only debate tonight at 9 p.m. Check local TV listings for coverage.

3. History re-enactment

A re-enactment will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dexter with Judge Samuel Dexter portrayed by resident Mark Olexa and Carol Jones as Millicent Dexter. Rich Schlanderer, an eighth grade English teacher will portray Col. Harrison Jeffords. The re-enactment will begin at 8:45 a.m.

4. Gas prices

5. This day in history

Oct. 11, 1962: On this day, Pope John XXIII convenes an ecumenical council of the Roman Catholic Church—the first in 92 years. In summoning the ecumenical council—a general meeting of the bishops of the church—the pope hoped to bring spiritual rebirth to Catholicism and cultivate greater unity with the other branches of Christianity.
