Also, school board members and superintendent Mary Marshall will also be available at 6pm if you'd like a more personal discussion with them before their official meeting at 7pm. It's a great time to talk together and share ideas and concerns. Just go to the Creekside media center and there's a meeting room inside and to the left. With the election coming up, it's a good way to find out more about the candidates. I'll be there. I'm hoping to find out how the pay to participate fee schedule is working out. I asked at the last meeting, but Mary said the numbers weren't in yet. Since Dexter is experimenting with having the highest fees in the county (along with a scholarship program), I am very interested in the outcome. How does participation compare with last year? What are the relative enrollment numbers for upperclassmen and incoming students? Has the revenue increased to a point that would justify the increases?

I should add that I'm running for Kim Covert's vacated seat on the Dexter School Board. Here's my website, if you'd like to find out more about me and how I plan to serve on the board. http://www.barbararead.org/

This Conversation with the Board opportunity will take place in the Creekside Cafeteria at 6:00 pm, immediately followed by the Board of Education Meeting in the Creekside Media Center at 7:00 pm. Hope to see you there!

In the interest of avoiding any misunderstanding on election day, I was unanimously selected and subsequently appointed to fill Kim Covert's vacated seat in January and I am running to retain this seat on November 6. http://dexter.patch.com/articles/dexter-school-board-selects-chris-gordon-to-fill-vacancy This seat is listed as a partial term ending 12/31/2014 on the ballot, in order to complete Kim's original term length. In order to learn more about me and my record of service on the Board of Education and elsewhere you can visit my campaign site at http://www.gordon4dexterschools.org

Thanks for the clarification. Last time it was in the media center room which was more comfortable and inviting. I had assumed we would be meeting there again. As I recall, the cafeteria was a bit large for the turnout, but I'm sure the board has its reasons for the change.

Again, thanks for the clarification. You are an appointee until an election can take place and voters can choose the new board member who will complete Kim's term. If any readers would like to see some of the differences in opinion between Chris and me, there's a thread here. http://dexter.patch.com/articles/dexter-loses-27-chelsea-gains-zero-students-on-count-day#comments
