1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts today will be sunny, with a high near 67 degrees. Friday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 39 degrees. Saturday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 68 degrees.

2. Artistica Fourth Friday Show

Artistica will showcase the artwork of Jody Hayden during its monthly "Fourth Friday" open house. Hayden creates primitive rag dolls and other soft sculptures that reflect the joy and fun of the fall and winter seasons.  Pumpkins, trees, Santas, snowmen and more creatures almost come to life with her creative use of fabric, tea-dying and fine details! Light refreshments will be served. The event will be held from 5-8 p.m.

3. The Fantasticks opens at the Encore

Tickets for the Encore Theatre's production of The Fantasticks are on sale now. The story follows the antics of two neighboring fathers who trick their children, Luisa and Matt, into falling in love by pretending to feud and erecting a wall between their houses. The fathers then hire traveling actors to stage a mock abduction, so that Matt can heroically seem to save Luisa, settling the supposed feud and securing their fathers' blessings. Tickets can be purchased online at http://theencoretheatre.org/

4. Gas prices

MichiganGasPrices.com reports the following gasoline prices in the Dexter area as of Thursday night:

5. This day in history

Sept. 28, 1994: On this day in 1994, 852 people died in one of the worst maritime disasters of the century when the Estonia, a large car an passenger ferry, sunk in the Baltic Sea. The German-built ship was traveling on an overnight cruise to Stockholm, Sweden, when it sank off the coast of Finland.
