Salvation Army issues donation appeal

The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County is reporting donations for its red kettle campaign are down by 10 percent from this time last year. Because of this, the nonprofit is making an appeal to the community, asking those who can, to rally their support to help fund important services.

Recent inclement weather and a lower number of volunteer bell ringers are factors in the decreased kettle donations for the charity this year, the nonprofit said.

“We simply cannot afford to miss making our goal this year,” Maj. John Williams said. “With a record high 16.8 percent of Michigan residents living in poverty, the success of our campaign is even more critical.”

Bell ringers will collect donations at Washtenaw County storefronts through Dec. 24.
