Here is a look at some upcoming events benefiting Dexter residents.

Chelsea Community Hospital plans Labor Day Walk

The Chelsea Community Hospital Healthy Communities Walking Program invites area residents, family, friends and visitors to participate in its Labor Day Fun Walk on Sept. 5 at the Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center, 17030 Bush Rd. in Chelsea. This free event includes 5.3- or 1.5-mile options for all fitness levels.

The day begins with registration and information on programs at 9 a.m., followed by group walks at 10 a.m. on the 5.3-mile Hickory Hills Trail, the 1.5-mile Bog Trail and a walking scavenger hunt for families.

"Participation in area walking events like this is a great way to get active with your kids, family and friends," hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Berry said in a press release. "Over time, regular exercise like walking can give you stronger bones, better balance, increased energy, increased stamina, increased strength, weight loss, reduced stress and connection with others."
