UPDATED: Damaged DTE Power Line Causes 1,800 Dexter Residents to Lose Power

DTE Energy crews expect power to be restored by midnight Wednesday.

Editor's note: This story has been updated to reflect that all but two homes in the 48130 zip code had power restored at 10:30 p.m. according to DTE Energy.

The cause of a massive power outage in the Dexter area that left roughly 1,824 residents without power Wednesday night is under investigation.

According to DTE spokesman Len Singer, crews were dispatched to the area of Island Lake and Dexter-Pinckney roads around 7 p.m. and have not been able to restore power as of 9:30 p.m.

"The exact cause of the outage is still unknown, but we have crews out there working and hope to have power restored by midnight," he said.

Singer confirmed that a power line behind may have been the source of the outage.

"We have not pinpointed the issue but it was not caused by one of our transformers blowing," he said.
