Dexter Businesses Honor Dads on Father's Day

Take Dad to your favorite eateries Sunday for a special discount.

Father’s Day is Sunday. According to Holidays.net, the first Father’s Day was celebrated in Fairmont, WV, in 1908. The event was organized by Grace Golden Clayton, who wanted to celebrate and honor the lives of 210 fathers who had recently died in a mining disaster. She chose the Sunday closest to her deceased father’s birthday.

No matter how you plan to honor your father this year, you can be sure that celebrating here in Dexter will help make his day extra special.

  • Celebrate Dad on his special day with a leisurely afternoon of fishing at . Pack a picnic lunch and bring the entire family for an afternoon of family fun from 1-3 p.m. The cost for the event is $3 per person, which includes rod, reel, bait and tackle.

  • Hackney Hardware is holding a sweepstakes in honor of Father’s Day. Go in to the store between now and Sunday and fill out a free entry form. Your dad could be the lucky winner of a Craftsman five-drawer tool chest, a $90 value. The drawing will be held Monday.
  • Treat Dad to delicious prime rib at Dexter’s Pub for only $15.95. He can wash his meal down with Pabst Blue Ribbon pitchers for $5 or pints for only $2. Children eat free, so the whole family can enjoy a meal in honor of Dad and all he does.
  • If a relaxing dinner at home is more your dad’s style, Classic Pizza has a "Dad’s Day Special." Enjoy a large pizza, breadsticks and any 2-liter bottle of soda for only $15.
