Dexter Daze Raffle Winners Remain Undecided

The Dexter Kiwanis Club and Rotary Club postponed this year's drawing due to inclement weather during Dexter Daze.

Though it's been a week since inclement weather forced officials to end festivities prematurely, the winners of the highly anticipated and raffles are still unknown.

The raffles traditionally cap off a weekend of music, entertainment and artist exhibits throughout downtown Dexter.

"Due to the evacuation of during Dexter Daze, the Kiwanis and Rotary Club were forced to postpone the drawing of the raffles," the Rotary Club said in a written statement on Friday. "At this time, the respective organizations are working with the Charitable Gaming Commission, who issues licenses for such operations through the state of Michigan."

At stake is a $10,000 grand prize sponsored by the Kiwanis Club and a historic playhouse for children built by Rotary Club volunteers. This year's Rotary playhouse is modeled after a cottage on the southwest side of Hudson and Third streets. It features paneled walls and ceiling, an engineered wood floor and interior design details including hand-painted accent wall tiles of local birds painted by artist Sandy Hansen.

Rotary Club President Steve Feinman said the club recently awarded certificates of appreciation to resident Mike Ettenhofer, , , Chelsea Lumber and Allied Building Products for providing in-kind services and building materials for the playhouse.

"Chelsea Lumber, Allied Building Products and Hackney Hardware have provided building materials and hardware on a continuing basis," Feinman said. "Mike Ettenhofer, a friend of Jeff Brown and Rotary, has helped build many of the historic playhouses over the last decade."

Both clubs sold hundreds of tickets leading up to Dexter Daze, and proceeds from the ticket sales benefit community organizations and school programs.
