Dexter Garden Club Holds Annual Plant Sale

Club members will offer plants, flowers and vegetables to the public.

The Dexter Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the gazebo in , located on Baker Road at Main Street in Dexter.

This year, event organizers promise a wider selection of plants, flowers and vegetables available to the general public.

“Each year, the sale grows,” said Allen Gorgas, event co-chairman. “Our hope is that we can appeal to a wider range of customers. We’re very excited for this year’s sale, and we got started seeking contributions a lot earlier, which helped us out tremendously.”

Gorgas said gardeners can expect to see a selection of 60 different perennial plants from Dexter Garden Club members' own gardens as well as hostas, day lillies, ornamental grasses and indigenous Michigan plants, among others.

Club member and event co-chair Mary Higgins said she expects all the products to sell out quickly.

"We are determining prices this week, but I know we offer some wonderful deals,” she said.

She said proceeds from the sale will be reinvested in local community projects.

“We help with a master gardener program as well as with the gardens at the Dexter Senior Center and Generations Together,” she said.

Gorgas said the club will have several master gardeners on site this year to answer customers’ questions.

“They can help people make decisions based on their yard and garden space,” Gorgas said. “There’s a lot of knowledgeable people right here in Dexter that can answer common questions.”
