Dexter Girl Scouts Holiday Craft Bazaar Set for Saturday

The scouts will sell handmade crafts at St. Andrew's United Church of Christ in Dexter.

The Dexter Girl Scouts annual holiday bazaar will take place on Saturday at St. Andrew's United Church of Christ as part of the "Home for the Holidays" winter festival in Dexter.

The bazaar will feature handmade crafts and baked goods inside the church's Fellowship Hall from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"This is an opportunity for the girls to make crafts that they can sell to the public to raise money for their troops," event coordinator Pam Sawin said.

Girl Scouts range in age from 5 to 18, so the crafts vary by design and complexity.

"The bazaar is a fantastic place to purchase teacher gifts, something for grandma or have children come who want to buy something for mom or another sibling," Sawin said. "The crafts change from year to year but a shopper will always be able to find one of a kind ornaments and other fascinating holiday decorations."

Sawin said not all of the crafts have a holiday theme.

"Each troop creates their own crafts and use the profits to pay for a variety of activities," she said.

Past activities have included trips to a waterpark, a mom and daughter tea at Terry B's restaurant, and a weekend summer trip.

Proceeds from the bazaar are also used to fund scholarships for girls to attend large group activities.

This year, a handful of outside vendors will be available at the bazaar as well, selling hand painted glassware, scarves, hats and mittens.

"We hope the community can come out to St. Andrews Church on Saturday and see what the girls have been working on. They are so excited to show off their creations," Sawin said.
