Dexter Group To Lend Hand to Oklahoma Tornado Victims

Hands of Light in Action is planning to travel to Moore, Okla. Thursday to help those affected by the massive tornado that hit the area earlier this week.

More than one-year after a tornado struck the Dexter area, residents are chipping in to help another tornado struck town - this time in Oklahoma.

Nancy Malone with Hands of Light in Action said she and others in the group are busy gathering supplies. Together they will travel to Oklahoma Thursday to help out however they can.

Dozens of people – including children – were killed when a massive tornado ripped through the town of Moore, Okla., a suburb of Oklahoma City, on Monday according to the Associated Press.

"We are heading down Thursday," Malone said in an email to Patch. "Steve De Wolfe of Excavators Inc has donated a 22 x 8 trailer and several Dexter residents are working on gathering supplies."

Malone said a number of items are needed including:

  • Work gloves and masks.
  • First aide supplies.
  • Tyvex suits.
  • Shovels.
  • Bottled Water.
  • Toilet paper and personal supplies i.e. toothpaste, brushes, and others.
  • Diapers and formula.
  • Non perishable food.
  • Cat and dog food, and litter.

"Just these specific items are needed," Malone said.

Supplies can be dropped off at:

People can also donate money to the group for the purchase of the above supplies. To do this, go to the Hands of Light in Action Facebook and hit the widget, Hands of Light in Action pay pal or send to Hands of Light in Action, PO Box 87513, Canton, MI 48187.

"100 percent of your donations goes directly to assisting the OK tornado victims and the needs of recovery," Malone said. "No one from HOLIA is paid. All volunteers, including me. Thank you for your support!"
