Dexter Historical Society to Host Appraisal Clinic

The annual event benefits programs at the Dexter Museum and Gordon Hall.

Have you ever wondered how much Grandpa Joe's old Army watch goes for these days? What about that dusty cuckoo clock in your garage?

On May 7, the Dexter Heritage Guild will will hold its annual antique appraisal clinic at the Dexter Area Museum, 3443 Inverness St., featuring representatives from DuMouchelles Fine Arts Auctioneers and Estate Appraisers.

The appraisers will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and appointments are encouraged.

"People have things passed down to them and they don't know if they are garage-sale items or something to hang on to," said Susan Schotts, event co-organizer. "Some people bring items to get appraised and then end up selling them through DuMouchelles auctions all over the world—this is big-time."

Schotts said appointments are set at 15 minutes each, with up to three hand-carried items. A donation of $7 per item is requested, with proceeds benefiting the museum.

"We've been doing this for several years and we see a wide variety of items come through the doors," Schotts said. "One woman said she is bringing in a 10-inch silver horse statute to hear its value."

Appointments can be made by calling 734-424-9998 prior to the event. On the day of the event, call the museum at 734-426-2519. For more information, visit www.dextermuseum.org.
