senior Ross Williamson has joined the Michigan Parkour League, an athletic club that focuses on movement in urban environments.

The group, which meets Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, trains runners to maneuver around obstacles with speed and efficiency. They are almost like unmasked superheroes, scaling buildings and flying off stairwells.

After a warm up, consisting of running and moving about low objects such as benches or on the side of a wall, and stretching, the group sets individual and group goals for the day. This week they focused on jumping over a low wall, onto a high tree branch, and landing without swinging forward.

“People think it’s cool to do what they see in parkour videos on YouTube, so they join and I found the more I practiced that it’s really rewarding," Williamson said.

Mathew Oishi, a group member said, “I started two years ago, after a while I saw how rewarding it is to learn to use my body.”
