“We already have teams assembled for the other four communities we represent — Manchester, Stockbridge, Grass Lake and Chelsea,” said Matt Pegouskie, CWF program and community resource manager. “The sooner we have a Dexter team registered, the sooner we can get them their stipend so they can go shopping for food supplies.”

In addition to the team’s grocery stipend, Pegouskie said each team would be given $25 Sunday to shop for fresh produce at the Chelsea Farmers Market. Teams in the “Family Chef” challenge must report in by noon Sunday and will be allotted 60 minutes to create a healthful family meal that will be judged by a two-member team from each of the five communities.

“Anyone can be on the team,” Dexter representative Mark Olexa said. “I know there’s students who might need community service hours, and we would welcome them to register for the ‘Family Chef’ challenge.”

The foundation is also looking for two residents from Dexter to judge the competition.

Other activities Sunday include an "over 50" co-ed Chelsea vs. Dexter softball tournament at noon, a bicycle safety and inspection program from noon-3 p.m., blood pressure screenings from noon-3 p.m. and a noon presentation by Joy Bauer, nutritionist for NBC's The Today Show. The day will conclude with presentations by award-winning fitness coach John Colver, author of Fit by Nature.

All events take place at Chelsea High School, 740 N. Freer Rd.

"We're basically trying to engage the population and create excitement and awareness and energy around healthy living," Pegouskie said about the event.
