Dexter's Friday Night Summer Concert Series Opens Third Season
The Dexter Community Orchestra will open the series this week at Monument Park.
The annual summer Friday Night Concert Series starts its third season with a performance by the Dexter Community Orchestra at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Dexter’s .
Each Friday, the series will feature bands and artists representing many different genres of music, from classic rock and orchestra to Beatles tributes, alternative country and blues. Each of the bands is sponsored through the generosity of Dexter businesses.
Gemini, a popular music duo that performs for children and families, is the featured act July 1. This will be the band’s third year performing in the concert series. Sandor "San" Slomovitz said the twin-brother duo welcomes audience participation.

“We invite our audience to sing, clap and dance along with us,” Slomovitz said. “We even bring people up on stage to play some of the instruments with us."
Two big changes are coming to the concert series. The first change is the addition of two public portable toilets in the park.

“The lack of public restrooms has become an issue (during events held in Monument Park)," said Abby Erickson, executive director of the Dexter Area Chamber of Commerce.
Erickson said the Village Council is debating whether to keep the portables in the park all summer.
Another welcomed change to the series is the addition of food and beverages available for purchase. and will sell hand-dipped and novelty ice cream treats as well as premade pita sandwiches and an array of beverages.
